Welcome to BRS!
The first four days of school have given our students the opportunity to get settled into their new classrooms, get to know their teachers, reconnect with old friends, meet new friends, and start learning the curriculum of their new grade level! We’ve been busy.
Typically, I send the Buffalo Bulletin in School Messenger every Thursday and I post it on our school website at https://buffalorubbingstone.cbe.ab.ca/ . It includes calendar updates and general information. More specific information is sent by the teachers. Tomorrow, included in the teacher email will be a link to the Family Viewpoint. Please complete this important information by Friday, September 11.
Learning begins at 8!
The school opens at 7:45 each morning. Students are expected to arrive between 7:45 and 7:55 am so they may get themselves organized for the day and be ready to begin learning at 8:00 am. Students walking through the door at 8:00 are late and miss important morning announcements, attendance, and opening routines. Please plan to arrive at school with plenty of time each morning.
Dismissal
For the first few days, teachers will accompany students to their meeting spot to reinforce end-of-day routines. It is essential families are on time to meet their children at their meeting point. There is no supervision after school. Children are expected to head straight home at the end of the day. If students are staying to play after school, it must be with parental supervision.
Bus Zone
We have three school buses this year and a new Calgary Transit bus stop. It is illegal to park, drop children off, or pick children up in a bus zone or beside the fire hydrant. Please leave this area clear. Please choose safety over convenience and model good traffic and pedestrian safety for our students by parking legally and crossing at the crosswalks.
Terry Fox Run
Forty-six years ago yesterday, Terry Fox announced that he needed to stop running across Canada and return to Vancouver for more cancer treatment. In that moment, he said if there was any way he could get back out to finish the run, he would. Cancer kept him from achieving his dream so Canadians took up the challenge. On Friday, September 18, we will participate in our annual Terry Fox school run. The support of parent volunteers with valid Police Information Checks is always deeply appreciated. If you are able to volunteer, please plan to be at the school from 10:00 am until noon. Please contact our phys. ed. teachers, Ms. Gregory at chsiddle@cbe.ab.ca and Mr. McEachern at jcmceachern@cbe.ab.ca, along with your child’s teacher.
Whole School Field Trip – Tuesday, September 29
We’re going to the Jubilee Auditorium!! In celebration of Alberta Culture Days, our whole school will attend a live performance featuring the talents of the Jubilee resident companies, along with a variety of cultural performers from across Calgary. This performance is offered free of charge by the Government of Alberta Ministry of Arts, Culture, and the Status of Women and the Alberta Jubilee Society. Our Buffalo Rubbing Stone Parent Association (BRSPA) is paying for the bus transportation, saving parents approximately $6.00 per student. Thank you BRSPA! More information will be coming in the days ahead.
